Incontro con Gerold Brenner (1). L’eclettico designer, cacciatore di tendenze e stilista svizzero ci svela cosa l’ha colpito a Pitti Uomo 91. E ci racconta l’uomo di oggi, secondo lui. La borsa, per esempio, un accessorio indispensabile. Ma anche la gonna di cui sta studiando le origini per una società in movimento, che cambia repentinamente i propri riferimenti, anche di genere…

1. Due parole sul tuo stile di vita, le tue passioni, cosa ti piace fare etc.

Attualmente vivo in svizzera e gestisco un'agenzia di ricerca tendenze soprattutto in ambito moda, ma anche sport e interior. E mi sto dedicando alla mia collezione di borse e accessori fatti su misura. Inoltre, sono lo store manager di un punto vendita vintage, che tratta soprattutto home-interior e design. Tra le altre cose sto riflettendo molto sulle gonne da uomo (2) e sul loro background etnico e storico. Mi capita anche di lavorare come modello sopratutto quando c’è bisogno di una “barba”… Infine un po' di yoga, viaggi, amore per la natura e per l’arte. Sono vegetariano e attivista per la salvaguardia dell’ambiente.

2. Ti senti più hipster o dandy?

No, non sono un hipster - non seguo le mode. Inoltre se volessi esserlo dovrei tagliarmi la barba: così suggerisce la tendenza del momento. Un amico una volta mi ha definito un hippie di lusso - penso proprio che sia perfetto per me - e un gentleman.

3. Il look che ti ha colpito di più a Pitti 91 a Firenze?

Un uomo anziano con una barba bianca e incolta. Indossava un kimono trapuntato, un berretto bianco molto grande fatto a mano.

4. Che cosa pensi delle borse come accessorio maschile?

Un must have! È certamente scomodo e poco pratico riempire le tasche dei pantaloni, della giacca o della camicia. Ben vengano gli uomini con le borse, io ne sono un esempio. Ed ecco perché ho creato la mia collezione (3).

5. Come giudichi una donna elegante e di stile?

Quando non si scopre troppo…

6. Fashion e interior sono collegati…

Certamente! secondo le mie previsioni, il punto di riferimento per analizzare la tendenza predominante parte sempre dalle stesse fondamenta per la moda come per l'interior. Così ad esempio in materia di colori/disegni o materiali. Va comunque detto che le tendenze dell'interor hanno un processo di sviluppo più lento di quelle del fashion.

7. Qual è il tuo colore preferito nell’home decor?

Una base di tonalità naturali, colori tenui e legno. Questo mi permette di cambiare il mood della mia casa con altri colori quando ne ho voglia (4).

8. L’ultimo acquisto che ha fatto per casa sua - utile o inutile?

Un tavolino in legno degli anni 50' del mio vintage store (5).

9. Se fossi un materiale, quale saresti?

Legno. Un materiale vivo.

10. L'ultimo libro che hai letto?

Leggo molto, talvolta più di un libro in contemporanea. Ora sto leggendo "We are Dandy" dei miei amici Rose Callhan e Nathaniel Adams. Non solo uno spaccato di questo mondo dandy, ma anche le storie private di molti Dandy. È veramente interessante approfondire la loro vita.

11. Qual è la capitale europea che preferisci? un hotel di charme dove soggiornare?

È buffo ma amo Firenze… ci vengo da 25 anni per lavoro e mi sembra di essere sempre a casa. Ci sono ristoranti dove conosco tutta la famiglia e negozi dove amo disquisire di moda con i proprietari. Uso Airbnb: posso infatti godere della mia intimità in un antico palazzo di carattere, magari con una bella vista sul Duomo. In Europa poi amo Londra e Berlino. A Londra sono spesso ospite di un caro amico e artista in Hoxton. Ma quando vado in albergo cerco sempre hotel di carattere, dove ogni stanza abbia uno stile differente, come l’Ackselhaus di Berlino.

1. Tell us, please, something about yourself, your lifestyle, how you spend your time, what you like to do..

I’m living in Switzerland and have an agency for trend forecast and working in this part worldwide mostly in fashion – active sport and interior. Beside this I’m doing my bag and accessory collection of upcycled denim customizes. And I’m store manger at an interior - design – home – vintage shop of a friend. This are my interests in privacy too. Reflecting at the moment a lot about men skirts and the ethnical and historical background. Working sometime as people model and in special for beards. A little bit yoga, travelling, love the nature and art. I’m vegetarian and environment activist. That it is.

2. Are you more of a hipster or a dandy?

No I’m not a hipster – because I didn’t follow trends ... if I would be a hipster I had to shave my beard now because a lot begin to do it now … so better to be no hipster. A friend told me that I’m a luxury hippie – think that’s perfect for me – and a gentleman.

3. What was the look that impressed you the most at Pitti 91?

An older man with white beard how worn a padded quilted boro kimono with an oversized off white knitted beanie.

4. What do you think about bags as a man’s accessory?

A must! For me it isn’t ok t carry things in your pants pockets or jacket or a no go in the shirt pocket. Therefore we men need bags too. I’m never without. Andthat’s the reason why I founded my own bag collection.

5. When do you think a woman is elegant and stylish?

If she didn’t present to much skin

6. Fashion and home living are linked….

For sure! Doing my trend forecast the first step to analyse Zeitgeist is always the same base! And then I make the interpretation out of this to fashion or interior e.g. special colours – pattern or materials are en vogue in fashion and interior. The interior trends are a little bit more slow because the time of development much more longer as in fashion

7. What is your preferred color to decorate your house?

I think it’s a base of natural tones, faded colors and wood. So I have the possibility to change with other colors very fast the mood of my home

8. The last purchase you made for your house - useful or worthless-?

A small wood side table of the the 1950ies had been at my vintage store

9. If you where a substance or material, what would you be?

Wood. because it’s an living material

10. The last book that you read?

I’m reading always books – sometimes some beside each other. At the moment ‘We are Dandy’ of my friends Rose Callahan and Nathaniel Adams. It isn’t only a picture book. There are the private stories of each Dandy and so interesting to get this backgrounds of a lot of friends are presented in this book.

11. Which European Capital city do you prefer? a must hotel of charm to stay at?

It’s funny because I love Florence … I’m come to there since 25 years for work and it’s a little bit coming at home … I have the restaurants I know the complete family and in shops I know the owners and we discus about fashion. And meanwhile I do Airbnb there. To have my privacy in an old building with private characterand perhaps a view at the Dome. Beside in Europe it’s London and Berlin. In London I stay always at my best friend an artist in Hoxton. But when I go to hotel I need hotels with individuality – where each room is done in it’s one style. e.g. Ackselhaus in Berlin.
